Fuel Cells for Municipalities Workshop

September 22, 2009 - Glastonbury Town Hall, Glastonbury, CT

Municipal decision-makers have a significant role in local government planning, capital improvement projects, and the allocation of funds. Presently, all municipalities in the state are required to have comprehensive plans that set forth community supported goals and objectives for development, recreation, and an overall quality of life. However, very few of these comprehensive plans incorporate energy demand, resources, and potential alternatives. Concerns about climate change and energy security, reliability, and price volatility can be partially addressed through the use of clean and efficient hydrogen and fuel cell technology for distributed generation and transportation applications.

Municipalities are well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities offered through the use of hydrogen and fuel cells to potentially lower energy costs, become energy independent, promote the use of green technology and create jobs. This workshop will aid municipalities in identifying high value opportunities for the use of fuel cells and hydrogen and will demonstrate how to move a project from site identification to grid interconnection.
